Safety is the most valuable investment you’ll ever make. Austin Driving School opened its doors in 1977 on historic Sixth Street in downtown Austin. We started our training program in classic vehicles like an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, a Buick Century, and a Ford Pinto, and have since updated our fleet to modern Toyota Corollas. While our original downtown location has moved, we’ve grown to serve drivers across the region. Today, we operate in Far South, South, North, and Northwest Austin, along with locations in Westlake, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Waco, Temple, North and South Arlington, Garland, Bryan, Fort Worth, White Settlement, and North and Northeast San Antonio. Our school is best known for our beloved mascot: a stuffed burro named “Ed” that rides in every driver’s education car. Often mistaken for a rabbit, Ed’s origin story remains a fun local mystery. Over the decades, he has accompanied thousands of teens as they learned to drive, later sitting beside their own children and grandchildren in our passenger seats. He even traveled on the roof of a wedding car for a couple who met in one of our classes! While Ed brings plenty of smiles, our true foundation has always been serious. Teaching safety and defensive driving is the cornerstone of our success. Mastering the mental awareness required behind the wheel is a life-saving skill, and we take great pride in helping every student develop it. What makes Austin Driving School different?
