Austin Driving School

At Austin Driving School, we teach the safety skills you will rely on for a lifetime. Founded in 1977 on downtown Austin’s famous 6th Street, our school has grown alongside the community. We have long since traded our original Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Buick Century, and Ford Pinto for a modern fleet of Toyota Corollas, and we have expanded far beyond our original neighborhood. Today, we serve drivers from convenient locations across North, South, Northwest, and Far South Austin, as well as Westlake, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Waco, Temple, North and South Arlington, Garland, Bryan, Fort Worth, White Settlement, and North and Northeast San Antonio. You will recognize our training vehicles by the legendary Ed the burro featured on every driver’s education car. Often mistaken for a rabbit, Ed’s exact origin remains a fun local mystery. He has accompanied thousands of lessons as we taught teens to drive, and today we are helping their children and grandchildren do the same. He has even appeared on the roof of a wedding car for a couple who first met in our classrooms. While Ed is a beloved part of our history, our true foundation has always been defensive driving. We focus on teaching the mental awareness and decision-making habits that keep drivers safe long after they pass their test. For more than forty years, Austin Driving School has been a trusted resource for Central Texas drivers. With over eighteen locations, we remain the largest driving school in the state. We are committed to making driver education accessible and stress-free by offering scheduling seven days a week, patient instruction for nervous drivers and older adults, high-quality training at fair rates, and the option to use one of our dual-controlled training cars for your official road test.
