Overview
Almost immediately after the first horseless carriages hit America’s roads, motorists began forming automobile clubs. In 1902, when only 23,000 cars were in operation compared to 17 million horses, 50 small motor clubs from across the country gathered in Chicago. On March 4 of that year, they founded the American Automobile Association. For more than a century, AAA has worked to shape the future of transportation by championing safe, efficient highways and a multi-modal system that is accessible and affordable for everyone.
AAA extends benefits to members traveling in 130 countries on six continents through affiliations with motoring clubs around the world. A fully tax-paying, not-for-profit organization, AAA and its network of motor clubs serve more than 59 million members in the United States and Canada.
We exist for our members and judge everything we do by how well it serves their needs.
