Overview

Get your complete driver’s education on your terms. We offer flexible online courses and behind-the-wheel drive times that fit around your busy schedule. Sign up for classes online, schedule your drive times right from our site, and prepare to pass your written and road tests at the DMV—all with guidance from expert instructors. Shield Driving School was founded in 2005 by Brad Bixler, a drivers’ ed teacher at Central Dauphin High School who saw the need for a higher-quality program in the Harrisburg area. He partnered with local police departments and brought together qualified traffic safety professionals who work one-on-one with each student. Two former PennDOT examiners are also part of our team. Quality driving instruction builds the foundation for safe, lifelong habits behind the wheel. At Shield Driving School, our instructors make sure every student gains the essential skills, knowledge, and good habits that lead to safer roads.

You will schedule three drive times, two hours each, one a week. The lessons comprise three different levels of driving with each lesson being built on the lesson previously completed. If you would like a bit more time to practice what you've learned in the lesson, you may choose to schedule them further apart. Lesson 1 - Basic understanding of the car, Self-defense driving techniques in a parking lot and introduction to country roads in a rural setting. Lesson 2 - Introduction to city driving, parallel parking and managing city driving in the urban environment. Lesson 3 - Review of parallel parking, review of the PennDOT exam, introduction into high volume traffic as well as merging onto highways.
