Overview
As soon as the first motor cars rolled onto American roads, drivers began banding together. In 1902 there were just 23,000 cars on the road—compared to 17 million horses. That same year, on March 4th, fifty small auto clubs from across the country met in Chicago and founded the American Automobile Association.
For more than a century since, AAA has stayed true to its founding purpose: shaping the future of transportation by championing safe, efficient highways and a multi‑modal system that’s accessible and affordable for everyone. Today, through partnerships with motoring clubs worldwide, AAA serves members traveling in 130 countries on six continents. A fully tax‑paying, not‑for‑profit federation of motor clubs, AAA now serves more than 59 million members across the United States and Canada.
*We exist for our members and judge everything we do by how well it serves their needs.*
