At Safety First Driving School, every instructor undergoes a thorough background check that includes fingerprinting and FBI review. In addition to state certification, each completes our own comprehensive Safety First training—a specialized program developed exclusively for our team. This consistent instructional approach ensures every student learns correctly. Instructors must also pass our written exam, defensive driving courses, and crash avoidance training. No other driving school in the state offers such an extensive training program. And the training doesn’t stop there. Our instructors recertify every year and can advance by completing additional courses and earning certifications in specialized areas. We invest in our instructors as career professionals with competitive salaries and benefits—not part-time workers who are just passing through. They are the highest-paid driving instructors in the state, which means they are genuinely committed to their work and to the people they teach. Safety First Driving School was founded on July 4, 1992 by John and Stephanie Mihalczo. After managing two other driving schools in New Jersey, Mr. Mihalczo saw that profit was often the only motivator in the industry, not education. That insight shaped a new direction. Starting as a single-car operation, Safety First quickly built a reputation for dependability and quality instruction. Within a few years, the business more than tripled. Today, we serve corporate clients, public and private schools, and offer defensive driving courses across New Jersey. John and Stephanie Mihalczo serve on the board of the Driving School Association of New Jersey, the organization that sets and enforces industry standards and helps create new laws for drivers. We are also expanding our website to offer an interactive platform that makes learning easier and more enjoyable. This year, in partnership with the local Policeman’s Benevolent Association’s D.A.R.E. program, Safety First will bring interactive drunk driving awareness seminars to high schools. These hands-on simulations help students understand the dangers of drunk driving in a memorable, engaging way. We are proud to have served the community for so many years.
