Owner and lead instructor Philip Fulmino brings over 31 years of experience as a safety specialist for a major oil company. During his career, he conducted driver assessments, led classroom safety training, investigated accidents, authored safety newsletters, and managed road testing for both new and experienced drivers. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Safety Education and is a New York State licensed driving instructor. He is also certified to teach the state’s 6-hour insurance and point reduction course, serves as a Smith System instructor for CDL driver awareness training, and is fully qualified in standard Drivers Education. Every instructor on our team averages more than 17 years of teaching experience and specializes in road test preparation. Thanks to their guidance, 90% of our students pass their driving test on the first attempt. Our instructors are patient, friendly, and clear communicators who focus on building confidence and promoting positive driving habits. You will learn how to accurately assess road conditions and make sound, timely decisions behind the wheel. Our goal is to equip every student with the right mindset, skills, and techniques needed for safe, accident-free travel. We maintain one of the newest training fleets in Staten Island, featuring late-model vehicles like the Kia Sorento, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Rogue. South Shore Driving School is also among the few local schools that offer behind-the-wheel lessons in an SUV. The elevated seating provides a clear view on all sides, while larger side mirrors improve rear visibility. Many students also find SUVs easier to park and a safer option for developing essential driving skills.
