Located at 1144 Executive Circle, Suite 217 in Cary, NC, Maintain Your Lane Driving School is a state-approved commercial driver education provider. We offer private driving lessons for teens and adults, along with our complete driver education program, which combines 30 hours of online classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. We gladly accept transfer students. In North Carolina, anyone under 18 must complete a state-approved driver education course featuring at least 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. To enroll, students must be at least 14 years and 6 months old by the first day of class. After completing the classroom portion, students are scheduled for behind-the-wheel lessons in order of age, from oldest to youngest. Our office will call you within 15 to 30 days to arrange a schedule. Our instructors are flexible and typically offer lessons in the afternoons, evenings, and on Saturdays. We will pick students up from home unless you and the instructor make other arrangements. The driving portion usually takes three to four days. On the final day, your instructor will provide a certificate of completion, which does not expire. To apply for a learner's permit at the DMV, you will need a Driver Eligibility Certificate from your high school. This document verifies that the student meets the state's academic progress requirements and expires 30 days after issuance. Bring your driving school completion certificate, your Driver Eligibility Certificate, your birth certificate, and your Social Security card to the DMV to complete your application. During the 30-hour classroom phase, a DMV representative will visit our school to conduct a required vision and medical screening. Students who pass will receive a Restricted Instruction Permit. This permit must be signed by the DMV representative and is required before we can schedule any behind-the-wheel lessons.
