Overview
We’re Western North Carolina’s largest driver education provider, serving nine public school systems and over 5,000 student drivers each year.
Mountain Professionals, Inc. (MPI) was founded in 1992 when North Carolina moved driver education out of the regular school day. Lee Roy and Sue Ledford recognized the need and started the company with just three contracts and six cars. Over 24 years, MPI has grown to nine contracts and a fleet of 45 vehicles. Today, our team includes 60 professionals: 55 hold bachelor’s degrees, 17 have master’s degrees, one holds an education specialist degree, six are National Board Certified, and two are North Carolina Teaching Fellows. All staff are certified by the NC Department of Public Instruction and the Division of Motor Vehicles. We take a personal approach, and we can meet a wide range of individual needs, including private adult lessons.
We prepare every client to become a competent, safe driver in all road conditions. Our instructors are certified, highly qualified, and drive safety-equipped, clearly marked vehicles. They stay current with DMV certification through ongoing in-service training, and all MPI instructors are members of the North Carolina Driver and Safety Education Association (NCDTESA).
