Glass City Academy

Established in 2003 as a dropout prevention and recovery school, Glass City Academy offers a curriculum that meets all Ohio state standards while providing rigorous coursework for every student. Together with our director and counselor, students and their families create personalized graduation plans that build on previously earned credits and academic accomplishments. We welcome applicants aged 16 to 21, with a special focus on young adults who have struggled in traditional high schools. Recognizing that these learners are considered at a higher risk of not graduating under Ohio guidelines, our mission is centered on helping every student complete their diploma. This commitment has earned us a Continuous Improvement ranking from the State of Ohio, along with the federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) rating. Located on a spacious campus along Monroe Street in Toledo, our school features a welcoming, college-like environment. Large, technology-equipped classrooms help students build practical, in-demand workplace skills. At the heart of the building is Study Island, a central computer lounge in the atrium where students use interactive software to prepare for state graduation exams. It also serves as a dedicated space for class projects, independent research, and subject-specific assignments. Our academic results reflect our dedication. Glass City Academy students consistently perform at or above the Ohio state average in proficient, accelerated, and advanced categories on the Ohio Graduation Tests across three out of five subject areas. Beyond academics, our students and school are actively recognized for community involvement. We received the 2007 Lucas County Delta Project Award, the 2008 United Way Community Builder Award, and a 2012 National Jefferson Award Bronze Medal for student-led service. In 2018, we became the only local high school to partner with the Toledo Zoo on a terracycling initiative.
