Since 1988, Special Driving Services, Inc. (SDSI) has provided specialized driver education for individuals with physical or neurological impairments resulting from trauma or disease. We offer evaluation and training with adaptive equipment when needed. Every plan is tailored to the individual and delivered by qualified professionals. We start with a thorough evaluation to assess readiness, identify any deficits, and create a custom service plan. When appropriate, licensed instructors provide behind‑the‑wheel training. SDSI was founded by Robert E. Reid, Ed.S., a special educator, Certified Driver Instructor, and Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist. Mr. Reid is also a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) and a State of Michigan Third Party Road Tester, administering Secretary of State road tests since 1997. Our office is in Okemos, Michigan, but we serve clients throughout the Lower Peninsula. We can also conduct evaluations and training in your own community to help you build skills faster. We coordinate care and share summary reports with your physician, and, when needed, with your medical case manager, rehabilitation facility, or insurance company for auto no‑fault and workers’ compensation claims.
