Academy Driving School of Troy, Inc. has proudly served Macomb and Oakland counties for over 30 years. Established in 1979, we are a state-certified driver education program and an authorized third-party testing site in full compliance with the Michigan Secretary of State. We offer structured programs for both teens and adults, along with the official road skills tests required for a Michigan driver’s license. Our team of male and female instructors and road testers are fully certified, highly experienced, and have dedicated their careers to our school. Our comprehensive curriculum provides the practical skills and road knowledge needed to successfully earn a state license. Certified examiners conduct all road tests according to Michigan regulations. Once you meet state requirements and demonstrate the necessary driving competencies, you will be eligible for your official completion certificate. Training Programs

  • Teen Classes

    The Graduated Driver Licensing Program (GDL) requires teens to complete Segment I & II classes to be eligible for a Michigan Drivers License. Segment I classes are offered once a month. Teens must be at least 14 years 8 months to enroll in the class. Segment I classes consists of 24 hours of classroom and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. Teens must successfully complete Segment I to apply for a Michigan Level I License (Learner’s Permit). Segment II classes are offered twice a month. Teens may enroll in Segment II classes 90 days after completing Segment I and must also have 30 hours driving experience (2 hours at night). Segment II consists of 6 hours of classroom instruction, which concentrates on defensive driving and getting ready to take a road skills test. Teens must successfully complete Segment II to be eligible to take a road skills test. Understanding the steps teens are required to take as they go through the Graduated Driver Licensing Program is essential.     Adult lessons are scheduled by appointment only. During the first lesson, which is one hour, the instructor will evaluate your driving skills to see if you are ready to take a state driving test. If you and your instructor feel you need to schedule additional lessons, you may do so at that time. “Package Rates” are available after the first lesson.
