Overview
The Traffic Safety Association is a non-profit, non-governmental public service organization founded in 1964 by the Macomb County Board of Commissioners and the Road Commission of Macomb County. Operating under Michigan state law, TSA brings together civic organizations, government agencies, private businesses, schools, and residents into a unified, county-wide effort dedicated to improving traffic safety. Our programs and resources serve all 481 square miles of Macomb County. In November 1965, the U.S. Treasury Department granted TSA federal income tax exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Articles of Incorporation were filed with the State of Michigan on April 26, 1965, and remain available for review at our offices.

Driver Education - Segment 1
24 hours of classroom instruction (State of Michigan requires that classroom instruction is 2 hours minimum per class). 6 hours behind-the-wheel instruction (students are required to complete 6 hours of driving in a dual-controlled, instructor-occupied vehicle, as well as 4 hours of rear seat observation)

Driver Education - Segment II: 6 hours of classroom instruction
must have completed 30 hours of “behind-the-wheel” drive time (including 2 hours of night driving) with parents or guardian. Must wait 3 months between receiving Level 1 Learner’s Permit

Defense Driving Course
The Defensive Driving Course (DDC) is a 6-hour National Safety Council course. This class is designed for both the inexperienced driver, as well as the driver who has had many years on the road. Recommended for persons who may not understand the simple rules of driving, or may need a review, or who may have been recently involved in a traffic crash.

Basic Driver Improvement Course
This 6-hour National Safety Council course is a classroom program. The Michigan Secretary of State will not make the points or information from the ticket available to insurance companies for drivers who successfully complete the BDIC. This course serves as a refresher of basic traffic safety principals and can improve safety for all Michigan drivers.
