Overview

We both grew up on the East Coast, where we lived and worked for most of our lives. Tim spent his childhood along the Gulf Coast, and Steve’s was on a lake in Maine. That shared love for the outdoors might just be in our bones. Tim grew up camping—first in a tent, then a pop-up, and finally in a tiny trailer so small it didn’t even have a bathroom. We’d fire up the old Coleman stove and those gas lanterns with their delicate mantles, and oh, the good times we had roaming the beaches, swimming in Munson Lake, and exploring the trails. Steve never camped—not once. But he grew up with wood fires crackling in the fireplace of a snow-topped A-frame, just five feet from a frigid lake tucked in the woods. When it wasn’t frozen, he and his brother would leap off the back deck railing into the freezing water. Yes, that was home. Eventually we grew up, went to college, and settled in the Southeast, where we met. In 2007, an unexpected chance led us to the Pacific Coast—Los Angeles, Sausalito, San Francisco. We fell in love with the western United States right away. Tim likes to joke that the Pacific Coast is the birthplace of his soul. But honestly, that fresh, cool air sweeping across the dramatic coastline would make anyone’s heart soar. Just a few years later, we had to head back east, but the Pacific Coast had already stolen our hearts. We knew then that someday we’d retire on the West Coast. At the end of 2019, we bought a Ram pickup truck we call Bunctious. As soon as our house sells in 2020, we plan to pack everything up and head west again. After that, we’ll get an Airstream and name it Lollygag. So picture this: two retired guys, on a Ram-bunctious Lollygag, having the time of our lives and making it up as we go. That’s the idea, anyway. Every chance we get, we’ll hit the road and explore. Because for us, the West still feels like a new frontier, full of adventure.
