Overview

When the first horseless carriages rolled onto American roads, motorists quickly began organizing automobile clubs. In 1902, only 23,000 cars were in operation—compared to 17 million horses. That year, on March 4, 50 small motor clubs formed by driving enthusiasts across the country met in Chicago and founded the American Automobile Association. From day one and for more than a century since, AAA has dedicated itself to the future of transportation, supporting safe, efficient highways and a multi-modal system that’s accessible and affordable for everyone. AAA is a fully tax-paying, not-for-profit federation of motor clubs, serving more than 59 million members in the United States and Canada. Through affiliations with motoring clubs around the world, members receive benefits in 130 countries across six continents. We exist for our members. Everything we do is measured by how well it serves their needs.
