Moore’s Driving Academy

Founded by Joan Moore, Moore’s Driving Academy grew from a lifelong commitment to professional driving and safety. Joan began her career as a school bus driver before advancing to a Greyhound bus driver. She later transitioned into law enforcement with the Department of Defense and served as a federal security specialist. Alongside her government service, she taught driver’s education part-time. Drawing on extensive hours behind the wheel and in the classroom, Joan opened her own driving school in 2001. Her mission remains straightforward: to put safe, confident drivers on the road. Joan also holds a degree from the College of Southern Maryland. Shawn Moore brings over two decades of law enforcement experience to the team. As a former police officer, he specialized in accident investigation, giving him deep insight into crash prevention and defensive driving. He retired from the Maryland Division of Parole and Probation on July 1, 2009, and has been teaching alongside Joan since the academy first opened. Shawn also holds a degree from Towson University.
