Training Programs

4 offered
  • Driver's Education

Individuals under the age of 18 are required to complete the driver's education program within 2 years of starting in order to be eligible for a road test exam. The course consists of 30 hours of classroom, 12 driving hours, 6 observation hours, and a 2 hour Parent/Guardian class must be attended (valid for 5 years). The student may start the classroom portion as early as 15.9 years old, and is eligible to test for a permit at the age of 16. Once the entire course is completed and the driver's education certificate is posted, the student has held their permit for 6 months (incident/accident free), and completed the RMV required 40 hours of practice with a parent/guardian, the student is eligible for a road test to be scheduled. At New England Driving School we work hard at making this process as smooth and informative as possible. During the 30 hours of class we follow the curriculum outlined by the Registry of Motor Vehicles. The classroom material educates the student of important motor vehicle laws and safe and proper operation of a vehicle. Once the student turns 16 years of age, he/she will be eligible to test for the permit. Learner's permit holders may drive when accompanied by an operator who is licensed, who is 21 years of age or over, who has had at least one year of driving experience, and who is occupying a seat beside the driver.

  • Behind the Wheel

Once the student has passed their permit test, and the parent class credit has been fulfilled, he/she will be eligible to set up the 12 driving hours and 6 observation hours. During this time we do our best to accommodate around the students busy life and schedule driving hours to fit his or her schedule. The most important part of these driving hours is the time spent by the student practicing with a parent or guardian, we space each lesson out in an efficient manner to allow for what is being taught to resonate and become second nature with lots of practice. Our fleet of vehicles consists of high safety rating sedans, which include a secondary braking system controlled by the instructor in case of an emergency. Each instructor is certified, licensed and CORI/SORI checked by the RMV every year for his/her annual renewal. Students who live in – or attend high school in Weymouth, Braintree or Hingham are eligible for pick up and drop off for the driving hour portion of the course. We also service Hanover, Rockland and Abington for door-to-door service. Any students who live outside of these towns may choose the closest pick up spot in any of the towns listed above. We have a strict cancelation policy and request that driving hours be canceled 24 hours in advance in order to avoid a $40 charge. Students receive reminders but are also advised to keep a written log of appointments to minimize the chance of missing any lessons.

  • Adult Lesson

Individuals over the age of 18 who hold a MA permit may choose to skip the driver's education program and instead do "Adult lessons" which consists of one-on-one training in the vehicle with one of our certified instructors. This lesson would be on the road instruction and based on the individuals skill level. The instructor may recommend focusing on certain maneuvers depending on your ability to successfully complete the requirements for passing your road test. Persons over the age of 18 may still choose to attend the course in order to obtain a driver's education certificate to issue to the insurance company for a discount. The individual would have to specify whether he or she would like to pursue the curriculum for the driver's education course or choose "Adult lessons" before scheduling his/her lessons. Our fleet of vehicles consists of high safety rating sedans, which include a secondary braking system controlled by the instructor in case of an emergency. Each instructor is certified, licensed and CORI/SORI checked by the RMV every year for his/her annual renewal.
