Overview

Our mission is to reduce preventable injuries and save lives through highly effective safety training, professional testing, and monitoring. We promote safety in every aspect of daily life, from homes and roadways to schools, businesses, industrial sites, and government agencies. We bring individuals and organizations together to prevent accidents, injuries, and fatalities, and to lower the costs associated with them. We envision a community where everyone lives and works safely, actively protecting the health and well-being of those around them. Founded in 1953 by concerned citizens as the Orange County Citizens Safety Council, our organization began with a clear focus on improving local road safety. Our first office opened at 37 E. Pine Street in Orlando. Today, operating as the Florida Safety Council, we have grown into Central Florida’s premier safety training agency. We now operate classrooms and driving ranges throughout the region, maintain a fleet of 20 driver education vehicles, and employ more than 100 dedicated instructors. Our expanded services include specialized workplace safety departments and behavioral modification programs. As a private, nonprofit organization, we continue to promote safety across all phases of life. Our operations are sustained through safety training services, corporate memberships, educational product sales, and community contributions. We also host an annual Golf Classic, with all proceeds funding free safety training for individuals in need and supporting local community safety initiatives. The Florida Safety Council delivers comprehensive training across several key areas. Our Driver Improvement Programs form the foundation of our educational initiatives, strengthening defensive driving skills and encouraging courteous, responsible habits. We offer specialized courses for individual, commercial, truck, and mature drivers, along with one-on-one instruction and high school driver education. We also provide the state-required Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course for all first-time Florida drivers. Our state-certified DUI and alcohol-related programs focus on lasting behavior change to reduce the risk of future arrests, injuries, and fatalities. Licensed evaluators and instructors guide clients through the factors that contribute to impaired driving and support long-term risk reduction. Licensed by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, we serve Brevard, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. We also coordinate with local courts on Ignition Interlock Device and continuous alcohol monitoring requirements, and we welcome Pretrial Diversion contributions to help fund our community programs. For workplace safety, we offer a wide range of OSHA-compliant courses and interactive seminars that encourage participants to share challenges and practical solutions. Beyond standard training, we sponsor free community safety forums and educational events. As an approved OSHA Training Institute Host Site and a provider for the nationally recognized Certified Occupational Safety Specialist program, we deliver high-quality compliance education and professional development. Recognizing the unique challenges young drivers and passengers face, we offer targeted programs for individuals under 25. These courses address anger management, impulsive decision-making, and serious behavioral issues such as bullying, vandalism, theft, and reckless conduct. We also provide flexible online and specialty training in areas such as safe boating, corporate safety services, occupational health, and responsible alcohol sales. Detailed course descriptions and enrollment information are available directly on our website. Beyond formal classes, we actively promote mishap prevention through our speakers bureau, educational materials, and multimedia public awareness campaigns. We also serve as an approved continuing education provider for DUI-certified professionals, licensed mental health counselors, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and the Statewide Public Guardianship Office. Through the United Safety Council’s Occupational Safety Institute, we deliver hands-on safety education focused on OSHA compliance, workplace safety culture, and comprehensive program development. Our offerings include standardized OSHA training, specialized compliance courses, customized workplace instruction, and fleet safety management. As a client or member of the Occupational Safety Institute, you are guaranteed proven, high-quality safety education. We offer three distinct membership tiers for both individuals and organizations, designed to maximize your resources and provide additional value to our dedicated partners.
