Overview
Allan Cantor founded the first Cantor’s Driving School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1976. A father of four who worked as a history teacher and disciplinarian at Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia, Allan started teaching driving on weekends and during his spare time. Before long, he had taught almost every teenager in the neighborhood how to drive.
Allan quickly earned a reputation as the best driving instructor around. Students loved his warm personality and how easily he connected with them. It wasn’t unusual for a lesson to include a quick stop for a famous Philadelphia cheesesteak — a touch his students never forgot. While the 1970s were a different era, Cantor’s Driving School has always been built on family, community, and safety.
Over the years, the school grew beyond Philadelphia into the surrounding suburbs. When Allan’s youngest son, Frank, joined the family business, he learned the ins and outs of great instruction directly from his father. Frank helped expand Cantor’s Driving School into five states: Pennsylvania, Florida, Nevada, Arizona, and California.
Today, Frank Cantor and his wife, Cheri, own and operate the school, carrying forward the tradition of a family-run business. They remain committed to teaching every student the core principles of safe driving: respect for the road, respect for other drivers, and staying aware of outside distractions.
