Overview

Most new drivers fail their road test because they weren’t fully prepared. The Department of Motor Vehicles recommends at least 50 hours of supervised practice driving, including 15 hours at night and 10 hours in moderate to heavy traffic. Professional driving instruction and a thorough review of the Drivers Manual are also strongly encouraged. If you‘re under 18 and have a Class DJ or Class MJ permit, be sure you understand the supervised practice hours required by law—these must be certified by your parent or guardian.
