Overview

California Defensive Driving School is bonded, insured, and licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles to provide both classroom and behind-the-wheel driver education. We were founded as a partnership between Walter Schall and Jarrod Bradley. With over two decades of teaching experience, Mr. Schall has guided new drivers through more than 20,000 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction—serving both teens and adults—alongside a 30‑year career as a professional bowler. Mr. Bradley holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, a Master’s degree in Education from UC Santa Barbara, and a California Single Subject Teaching Credential. Together with our entire team, they strive to deliver an unparalleled learning experience for young drivers in the Santa Barbara area.

  • Online Driver Education

In order to take the DMV written test to get a provisional permit students must complete a minimum of 25 hours of classroom driver education. Traditionally, students could take this course in high school or from a private local school like us. This remains the most effective method for learning material required for passing the written test at the DMV. However, for students with busy schedules, we now offer online driver education. Students complete all coursework online, watch videos online and complete the end-of-unit exams online.
