Overview

Choosing a driving school is a big decision—let’s make it simple. We’re the instructors trusted by DMV employees, examiners, law enforcement officers, professional drivers, and parents teaching their teens. No contracts required. Unlike many schools that lock you in and won’t refund prepaid fees, we offer convenient pay-as-you-go behind-the-wheel training with a male or female instructor. Every lesson includes defensive driving skills. Our Defensive Driving lessons are $89 each, and Advanced Defensive Driving lessons are $129 each. Our students become safe, confident drivers and consistently earn top marks on the DMV drive test. Take a moment to compare other schools’ policies and lesson plans—we’re confident you’ll reach the same conclusion as the experts, our students, and their parents. Our training is the best available, our instructors are the most qualified, and our policies are designed to make life easier for both students and parents. We run a school first, not just a business.

  • DMV Approved Online Driver Education Course

The tuition at many schools for Online Driver Education is usually from $29.00 to $99.00 for exactly the same program. Some schools also charge certificate fees, processing fees, or mailing fees. We charge $15.00 period. No extra fees. Additionally we will mail you a $15.00 off coupon toward your first Behind the Wheel lesson with us. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION BELOW. TIP The California DMV requires Online Driver Education to be a 30 hour course. Although many students complete the curriculum in 5 hours or less, before you can take the final exam you must "attend class" for at least 30 hours. Leaving yourself logged into a module when you take a break or finish for the day will allow you to remain "in class" until you log off. It is also important to remember that once you have taken the Final Exam for the Driver Education class, the DMV will not need to test you on the curriculum again. The Written Test that the DMV administers is based on the California Driver Handbook. We strongly suggest that you study OUR Written Test Q & A and the DMV Driver Handbook (especially the new laws) after you finish the Driver Education curriculum. The links are near the bottom of our Home Page. PLEASE READ The California DMV requires the original Completion Certificate with their serial number and an ink signature when you apply for your Instruction Permit. The certificate cannot be e-mailed or downloaded. We will mail the certificate to you within 48 hours. We suggest you allow 3 to 5 additional days mailing time, although locations in or near Folsom MAY receive them sooner.

  • 4 Behind the Wheel Lesson Plan

Lesson 1 (1 hour) Students learn basic vehicle control, roadway position, primary defensive driving skills and how order is maintained on the roadway through laws and driving procedures. After lesson 1 the student should have 5 hours or more of focused practice generally over a period of 1 to 1.5 months. Lesson 2 (1.5 hours) It is preferable to conduct this lesson in moderate traffic. How to perform blind spot lane changes, dedicated right turns, entering and exiting two way left turn lanes (suicide lanes) U-turns, multiple lane left turns, etc. After lesson 2 the student should have 15 to 20 hours or more of focused practice generally over a period of 2 to 2.5 months. Lesson 3 (1.5 hours) Students learn how to merge onto the freeway at the speed of the flow of traffic and how to exit without unnecessarily slowing down while on the freeway. We work on numerous lane changes. We discuss the speed differential and spacial relationship of the vehicles present and how it affects how we should do things. The freeway on ramps and off ramps are specifically chosen due to various challenges that are present on the ramps, as well as in the area of the city near the ramps. This exposes the student to city driving that is often quite different and more difficult than is normally encountered in routine driving. After lesson 3 the student should have 10 to 15 hours or more of focused practice prior to lesson 4. The length of time between lesson 3 and lesson 4 generally depends on student performance. Lesson 4 (2 hours) The lesson includes understanding and analyzing traffic lights for cross streets, drive test preparation, parallel parking and tying up any loose ends. After lesson 4 the student should have 1 to 5 hours of focused practice.

  • 4 Behind the Wheel Lessons Advanced

Lesson 1 (2 hours) Although students learn basic vehicle control, roadway position, primary defensive driving skills and how order is maintained on the roadway through laws and driving procedures, our main focus is to create a "thinking driver". We stop at uncontrolled, two way stop and 4 way stop intersections to discuss and watch other drivers actions and how they are often dramatically different from what the law requires. Students are constantly questioned and challenged to seek out potential hazards and situations and point them out before the instructor does. Students are asked to determine possible future concerns based on what they are currently seeing. Students participate in a demonstration that shows the student that peripheral vision goes away while driving unless effort is made to make the brain and eyes communicate correctly with each other. Conceptual training and repetitive reinforcement are used extensively. After lesson 1 the student should have 5 to 10 hours or more of focused practice generally over a period of 1 to 1.5 months. Lesson 2 (2 hours) The lesson is more intense. It is preferable to conduct this lesson in heavy traffic. How to perform blind spot lane changes, dedicated right turns, entering and exiting two way left turn lanes (suicide lanes) U-turns, multiple lane left turns, etc., etc., are taught. Difficult locations and driving conditions have been researched and incorporated into this lesson. The student participates in a maneuver that assists in an understanding of “off tracking”, also commonly known as “rear wheel cheat” by commercial drivers. We examine curbs and the black marks on them left by the tires of other drivers and discuss proper turning techniques in detail. We drive in parking lots and discuss cars backing out of spaces and how the back up lights of the parked cars need to be monitored in addition to pedestrians, bicyclists and skateboarders. After lesson 2 the student should have should have 20 to 25 hours or more of focused practice generally over a period of 2 to 2.5 months. Lesson 3 (2 hours) More intense yet. We learn how to merge onto the freeway at the speed of the flow of traffic and how to exit without unnecessarily slowing down while on the freeway. We generally drive through 3 to 4 interchanges. We discuss the speed differential and spacial relationship of the vehicles present and how it often indicates what other drivers may be planning to do. We cover some basic physics (weight transfer, centrifugal force, inertia, traction, etc.) We discuss big rigs and tanker trucks and those large black pieces of rubber lying on the freeway and why the reason they got there is much more dangerous than their mere presence of just being there. We look at the bridges and discuss how trucks being too tall have caused them to be struck while the trucks are driving down the freeway. Upon arriving downtown, we have a specific route that we follow. It is designed to take advantage of the difficulties that downtown Sacramento offers. (round-a-bouts, one way streets, closed streets, confusing intersections, etc., etc.) Upon completion of the route, the instructor assigns a location to find, preferably without help from the instructor. Since the streets are numbered and lettered this is possible, but due to the design of downtown Sacramento it is a complicated maze to navigate. This is most likely the first time your teen has truly had to drive a car. Prior to this he has either known how to get to where he is going or you have been telling him where to turn while he is driving. The instructor may, for a few minutes, turn up the radio to a level most teens listen to. With thoughts now divided between driving safely, navigating and audio distractions, most students make numerous serious mistakes that would affect their safety. Although this can be a bit intense, we have NEVER had a student have an accident on this lesson or any other lesson. After lesson 3 the student should have 10 to 15 hours of more of focused practice prior to lesson 4. The length of time depends on student performance. Lesson 4 (2 hours) The lesson includes understanding and analyzing traffic lights for cross streets, understanding how the drive test is scored and preparing for specifically what the examiners are looking for, parallel parking and addressing any concerns the student or I may still have. After lesson 4 the student should have 1 to 5 hours or more of focused practice.
