Danny McKeever’s FAST LANE

For nearly two decades, Fast Lane Racing School has proudly served as the Official Racing School of Toyota Racing. Founded by owner and lead instructor Danny McKeever, the school delivers world-class training to a roster of professionals and celebrities, including Cameron Diaz, Keanu Reeves, George Lucas, Tanner Foust, Patrick Dempsey, and Danica Patrick. Danny has been instructing since 1967 and has guided the Toyota Pro/Celebrity race at Long Beach as Chief Instructor for nearly 30 years. Fast Lane operates at the legendary Willow Springs Raceway, just outside Los Angeles. DANNY MCKEEVER Danny’s motorsports journey began in 1953 when he attended his first sports car race at Palm Springs Airport at age 13. That day sparked a lifelong passion. By 19, he’d saved enough to buy a 1954 Austin Healey 100-4 and quickly learned to maintain and repair the cars he loved. His racing career started with hillclimbs and autocrosses before he moved to road racing at 23, competing at Pomona Fair Grounds. A natural teacher, Danny started instructing for the California Sports Car Club region of the SCCA racing school over forty years ago. Before turning 30, he helped launch the first SCCA Solo-1 driving school at Riverside Raceway, becoming Chief Instructor and developing the basic time-trial rules still in use today. In 1974, he became Chief Instructor of the California Sports Car Club racing school, a role he held for twelve years; the curriculum, tests, and surveys he created remain the foundation of the program. From 1986 to 1991, he served as Chief Instructor for the Willow Springs International Raceway Racing School under track owner Bill Huth. INSTRUCTOR TO THE STARS In 1986, Danny took on the role of Chief Instructor for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Pro/Celebrity Race—a position he has held for over twenty years. He trains every participant for this marquee event, and he’s quick to credit his team of instructors for the program’s success, especially his lead instructor, his son Dan McKeever IV. Danny is also sought out by Hollywood’s elite for stunt training, coaching in their personal high-performance cars, or just for a track day. FAST LANE OPEN FOR BUSINESS In 1994, Danny partnered to start Fast Lane Racing School, the official racing school of Toyota Motorsports, initially as Chief Instructor before becoming sole owner. He continues to run one of the country’s most successful racing schools. In 2003, he expanded the family with the Defensive Driving Academy. Even with a talented staff, Danny personally teaches nearly every high-performance school to this day. FROM PASSION TO PROFESSION Before 1986, Danny’s teaching was entirely voluntary—the clubs were amateur-run. That year, he decided to turn his passion into a profession and built a business around teaching. Racing instruction has always been his greatest love, and he still volunteers at many of those original clubs. A FAMILY AFFAIR Danny’s devotion to motorsports has left a lasting impression on his family. His son Dan, an accomplished race car driver, now oversees operations and driving schools at Miller Motorsports Park. Though they occasionally compete for business, father and son regularly join forces for special events. Dan has worked alongside Danny on the Toyota Pro/Celebrity event for the past 19 years.
